The Preparedness Training Audiences that we identified for training are:

WHAT?
Phase One: focus the training on the basic information we want all Public Health employees and response team members to know.

Phase Two: focus the training on the specialized information for Leadership the specific Response Teams.

PHASE ONE

We started by addressing the knowledge and skills we want our staff to have at the end and worked backwards. In the absence of finalized plans, we have focused our training efforts on the basic information we want our Public Health response team members to know.

This includes topics such as: Sample presentations have been included for many of these topics in the Tools & Samples section.

PHASE TWO

Next, we will launch Phase 2 of our training program that will be comprised of two essential strategies:
  1. Leadership Training: train our emergency response leaders (e.g., Site Managers, EOC Representatives, Response Team Leads) in our system on how to lead in an emergency using ICS and National Incident Management System (NIMS) principles.

  2. Response Team Training: train all our team members on their specific response roles and responsibilities.

WHEN & WHERE?
Be sure to include specific direction in your plan about training protocols such as physical attendance at an organized training or if staff can participate in a self-guided training on the Web. Include the necessary Public Health executive staff in the determination of mandatory versus voluntary training.

WHY?
Developing a training plan will allow Public Health to establish appropriate curriculum, training resources, and training processes that will be needed to prepare managers, staff, and likely emergency response team leaders with the best skills to perform well in the event of an emergency workforce activation.
